[ARCHIVED] 8,100 attend North American Police Equestrian Conference Hosted by New Castle County

The North American Police Equestrian Conference hosted by New Castle County Police last weekend drew 8,100 people who enjoyed the family-friendly event on Saturday and Sunday.

County Executive Tom Gordon was pleased with the turnout and the excellent manner in which the New Castle County Police Mounted Patrol organized this prestigious event at Carousel Park.

“I want to thank all the County employees who put this event together, and I want to thank NAPEC for allowing this event to be held here at this beautiful park,” County Executive Gordon said. “This park is used by 70,000 people. There is a small zoo that we call the Kids Corral, horse riding lessons, and ample natural beauty spread amongst more than 200 acres of meadows.”

The County Executive encouraged those attending the NAPEC event to come back and enjoy all aspects of the park, including the Tombstone-style town center, Boot Hill Cemetery,
the Clydesdales and the new cart they would use in the future for different events.

New Castle County Police Chief Colonel Elmer Setting thanked County Executive Gordon for ensuring the County provided citizens not just with strong public safety but with quality parks such as Carousel Park & Equestrian Center, enabling it to host an event the caliber of NAPEC.

New Castle County Police Sgt. Mary Devine, commander of the Mounted Patrol, said officers from 22 agencies, 12 states and Canada competed at NAPEC. The NCCPD Mounted Patrol opted to not compete in deference to their guests, she said.
