Young author Monica Keszler to start book tour at New Castle County’s Elsmere Library

New Castle County Executive, Thomas P. Gordon, is pleased to announce that Monica Keszler, the 2014 winner of the Diverse Minds Youth Writing Challenge, will read her award winning book, Kira Kiwi, How Will School Be?, at select New Castle County libraries.

The book, which was written and illustrated by Monica Keszler, was created as part of the B’nai B’rith International Diverse Minds Youth Writing Challenge in Delaware and the Delmarva Peninsula. Miss Keszler won first place in the contest in which high school students wrote and illustrated children’s books about tolerance and diversity. She received a $5,000 scholarship, and her book was published.

Miss Keszler, a Charter School of Wilmington student, will kick off her New Castle County book tour at the Elsmere Library at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 14.

In attendance will be County Executive Gordon, New Castle County Councilmen Penrose Hollins and Joseph Reda, and New Castle County Department of Community Services General Manager Sophia Hanson. Councilman Hollins and Ms. Hanson both served as judges for the writing competition.

Children who attend the book reading will be given signed copies of Miss Keszler’s book.

“We are excited to have a young, talented author like Monica Keszler conduct a reading in our libraries,” County Executive Gordon said. “We are proud of her and wish her continued success.”

Future readings will be held at the Kirkwood Highway Library on July 16 at 7:30 p.m. and the Woodlawn Library on July 29 at 2 p.m.
