New Castle, DE –New Castle County has announced the 2022 Black History Month celebration open house event with a focus on art to take place on Saturday, February 5 from 10 am – 2 pm at the Walnut Street YMCA. In collaboration with Walnut Street Y Black Achievers, Delaware Art Museum, and Delaware Children’s Museum, the open house event will feature opportunities to meet artists, and participate in art activities, and purchase items from the art market. Admission is free to the public.

“We are very excited to be showcasing generations of amazing local Delaware artists including Edward Loper, Jr, K.O. Simms, Amir “Amiracle” Campbell, Andre Reyneard, Janiah Bradley, Jabaar Brown, Eunice LaFate, Asata Maiśe, Velvet Poindexter, Samara Weaver, and more,” said County Executive Meyer. “For interested attendees, they can find the most up-to-date information about the event HERE

New Castle County Division of Community Resources and The Walnut Street YMCA have partnered on the annual Black History Month celebration for seven years. In 2020 the Black History Month Celebration moved online and outdoors for a hybrid experience because of COVID-19 safety concerns. This year, the event is once again in person, but is modified and presented as an open house giving people more time and space to enjoy the event in smaller groups. All COVID-19 safety protocols will be in effect for the event including an indoor face covering requirement.
