New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer declares week of May 17 Public Works Week in New Castle Count

New Castle, DE – New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer will declare the week of May 17 Public Works Week in New Castle County. The nearly 400 New Castle County public works professionals focus on infrastructure, facilities and services that are of vital importance to sustainable and resilient communities and to the public health, high quality of life and well-being of the people of New Castle County.

 

“It’s my honor to recognize New Castle County’s public works team by declaring May 17-21 Public Works week here in New Castle County,” said County Executive Meyer. “These professionals have been at the front lines of the pandemic over the past year, by coordinating the hundreds of testing sites in New Castle County, checking our sewer water for COVID-19 and other bacteria, ensuring every county police car, paramedic ambulance, and hundreds of other automobiles are ready to serve our community, while maintaining our parks so we could get out and get that much needed exercise and fresh air.”

 

“As co-chair of New Castle County Council public works committee, I am proud to help declare this week Public Works here in our county,” said Councilman Tim Sheldon (District 9). “Our public works teams are engineers, managers and employees at all levels of government and the private sector, responsible for rebuilding, improving and protecting our county’s, parks, water treatment and public buildings and other structures and facilities essential for our citizens.” 

 

“I am proud to stand with the professionals in the Public Works department who keep our county running,” said co-chair public works committee Councilman Ken Woods (District 1). “We celebrate their hard work they do for our county, making it a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.” 

 

In honor of New Castle County Public Works County Executive Meyer will be visiting locations throughout New Castle County and discussing with public works team members the importance of their career and impacts on County residents. The conversations will be carried live on Facebook.com/NCCDE. The County Executive will officially declare it public works week on Wednesday, May 19 at 11:30 a.m. at the New Castle County Connor Building along with members of the public works teams.
