New Castle, DE – This Saturday, August 26, from 11 am - 4 pm New Castle County presents the second annual Anime Day at the Art Studio, Located in the Absalom Jones Community Center at 310 Kiamensi Road, Wilmington. Anime Day at the Art Studio is a family-friendly anime and manga convention, and the only Anime convention in Delaware, featuring workshops and anime screenings, an anime contest, local artists and vendors, Pokemon TCG, Mobile Cloud Gaming Truck and more. Last year’s inaugural Anime Day drew more than 750 attendees.
Anime Day is a collaboration between the New Castle County Art Studio and Author Liz DeJesus of Unexpected Spark Studios. The Delaware Anime Society joins in presenting anime screenings followed by film discussions. Workshops will be offered throughout the day on a variety of topics and New Castle County’s Brandywine Hundred Library will display items available for checkout from their anime and manga collections (attendees without a library card can get one at the event). A Mobile Cloud Video Game Truck will provide additional entertainment and the event will culminate with an Anime Cosplay contest.
Anime (film/video) and Manga (print) is a popular modern art form which started as a Japanese trend and has gained popularity worldwide.
“Whether you are a hard core fan who plans to come dressed in costume or are just curious to learn more about this phenomenon, Anime Day is a great opportunity to meet local artists and comic book companies that are involved with this very popular art form,” said County Executive Matthew Meyer. “It also provides our residents access to a smaller “convention” that is free and close to home, where they can share their interest in anime with others. Anime Day encourages the love of art, reading, imagination, entrepreneurship, skill sharing and fellowship. Come check it out!”
“I felt that it would be great to have an event for kids in Delaware where they can share their interest with other kids their age,” said Liz DeJesus. “Especially with other conventions that are more expensive and farther away, it's great to be able to go somewhere close to home and still have a wonderful time.”
