The New Castle County Police Department motorcycle function consists of four Harley-Davidson Road King Police Package motorcycles. These motorcycles are operated by officers from a range of different functions throughout the department and are primarily used for special events such as parades and escorts. The function began in 1993 when the department purchased the first group of motorcycles. Since that time they have been utilized in various events and capabilities including patrol duties. Officers selected to ride as part of the motorcycle function receive a 40-hour block of training from the Philadelphia Highway Patrol Division or equivalent.
While the department will attempt to consider individual circumstances during the hiring process, dishonesty will result in immediate disqualification.
